27th Annual ECVS Meeting in Athens
The Equine Surgery courses of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) 27th Annual Scientific Meeting were organized at Markopoulo Race Track with great success on the 4th and 5th of July 2018.
Forty five specialized equine surgeons attended the ‘Management of Specific Fractures in Foals’ course, in the 5th floor of the Grand Stand, presented by world renowned expert lecturers:
- Alan Ruggles, DVM Diplomate ACVS, Shareholder of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital Lexington, KY,
- Christoph Lischer, Prof. Dr.med.vet. Dipl. ECVS, Managing Director at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Freie University Berlin,
- Matthew Smith, BVetMed, DEO MRCVS, Dipl. ECVS, Partner at Newmarket Equine Hospital, and
- Anton Fürst, Prof. Dr.med.vet Dipl. ECVS, Director of the Department of Horses at the Vetsuisse Faculty of the Univeristy of Zurich,
The ‘Refresher Course on Intestinal Anastomosis for Diplomates’ taught by Appleton Endowed Professor and Director of Island Whirl Equine Colic Research Laboratory, Univeristy of Florida Dr. David Freeman Prof. MVB PhD ACVS was so sought after that it was fully booked soon after opening for registration, with 18 ECVS/ACVS diplomates participating from around the globe. The course took place in the Equine Veterinary Clinic (EVC) with multiple videos and a wet lab performed on a prototype synthetic equine intestine.
The course delegates represent more than 57 advanced equine hospitals from more than 20 countries that discussed practical approaches and advancements in equine surgical techniques.
The ECVS meeting continued at the Athenaeum InterContinental until the 7th of July and consisted of an extensive small and large animal surgical program having the highest participation than ever before, with more than 800 veterinary surgeons from all over the world.
